Making A Gift

Your will is a lasting gift to your loved ones and to the next generation. Making a will is a very personal matter. After you have provided for your loved ones, you may consider including the O’Brien Foundation as a beneficiary.

A bequest to the O’Brien Foundation in your will is a special way to support a cause that is important to you and to the community. If you choose to leave a gift to the O’Brien Foundation you can be assured that any amount – large or small, will make a valuable difference.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on support from individual donors and gifts to finance our ground-breaking research. In the past, bequest funding has been used to:

  • Support young researchers
  • Support world leading research projects
  • Purchase essential research equipment.

Your gift, no matter the size, will make a valuable difference.

What is a bequest?

A bequest is an instruction you make in your will, directing some of your estate to be gifted to an individual, charity or particular cause. It can be in the form of money, property, shares and debentures or other valuables. You don’t have to be wealthy to make a bequest – whatever you choose to give will make a difference.

When you include a charitable gift in your will you create something powerful, a gift that can create opportunities, improve the community and fund new ideas, and importantly, your action will inspire others to follow your example.

Arranging your bequest

To make a bequest to the O’Brien Foundation, we suggest the following wording for consideration by your legal advisor.

“I bequeath (a percentage of my estate) or (a specified sum) or (all rights, title and interest in [description of specified land or property at …] free of all duties, for the general purposes of the O’Brien Foundation (ABN 62 024 076 688) 42 Fitzroy Street, Fitzroy 3065. I declare that receipt of an authorised officer of O’Brien Foundation shall be a complete and sufficient discharge for the executor(s).”

We believe it is an important step to talk to family and loved ones about your will. Communication will ensure that decisions that are important to you are understood by family members, executors and guardians.
